The 2013-2014 school year promises to be particularly productive for anti-smoking groups. As well as act to further tighten Quebec’s Tobacco Act, the Quebec Council on Tobacco and Health is preparing a series of initiatives, highlighted by three turnkey activities. These are intended to make it easier for teens to get involved and to ensure that as many as possible play an active role in the fight against tobacco. Because the materials are provided, these activities can easily be added to existing initiatives in each community. Stay tuned!

• As part of Drug Awareness Week (November 17 to 23, 2013), a first fun-filled and engaging activity will be presented: the Sticky-note Challenge! On this occasion, teens will create a mural made up of sticky notes featuring their own anti-tobacco messages. This simple, fast and effective activity is meant to spark reflection, and it can be used as a tool to influence other teens in your community. Register now!

• This year, Youth Coalitions presenting projects in specific Quebec regions will reap the benefits of tools offered as part of Operation Say it Loud! In these pilot regions, teens will use these tools to give young people a voice on issues that concern and interest them and to incite them to bring about changes that make their environments unfavourable to smoking.

• From January 19 to 25, 2014, all of Quebec will mobilize as part of Quebec Tobacco-Free Week; a host of interesting activities for young people will be offered. The third turnkey activity will be offered in the spring. Stay tuned for details!

• A Youth Coalition Advisory Network made up of one representative for each of Quebec’s 16 regions will advise public authorities on tobacco-related issues affecting young people in the province.

• Our and accounts are a buzz! Two added tools to keep you dialed in to the issues you care about, your projects, as well as the activities of the Youth Coalition Against Smoking and the QCTH.

• Finally, to close out the year, the traditional regional prizes will be presented throughout Quebec to the Youth Coalitions that stood out the most.

You will be updated on all new developments through the Youth Coalition website (, the next edition of the newsletter or your regional agent ( .
